Path towards doing work in the Intelligent Process Automation (IPA) Industry

  • by

I’m a 3rd-year Mechanical Engineering student interested in entering this industry after graduation. I do not have experience using AI/ML technologies and would like to pick the brain of anyone currently in this industry.

Based on what I have seen, it is for the most part, a very new industry. I don’t see many large consulting firms applying it and it doesn’t seem like quite many businesses are that interested nor are companies streamlining products for it. AFAIK it is essentially a combination of RPA and Machine Learning/AI.

With that being said, it is undoubtedly going to be big someday. Not really sure when, but soon.

I would like to find a path into this industry by gaining the skills needed to work in this industry. The first thing I thought about doing was getting a UI path RPA associate certification, and then learning ML/AI on Udemy or a site that offers courses for it. Then it would be likely building my project portfolio for each respective technology and maybe even learning AWS or Google Cloud in the process.

As of now, I know nothing about applying IPA, RPA, and ML/AI.

I would certainly like to hear what you have to say about this plan and how you think would I should approach this, such that 3-5 years down the line I could potentially enter this industry. I appreciate any help you could offer.
